Now suddenly I am thinking about running 4 hours. Why? I always tried to run non-stop. I used to think that stopping is like wasting the whole effort. Well now I think about it - It is Not a waste if I stop. I can say now that if I tell my mind that I can stop and have some water in a long run, I can easily run well over 1 hour, at this time when I am just starting Marathon training. I know that in Marathon, I can stop and take some rest and move on. Thats a big phycological edge. Trust me.
I want to talk about my goals a little bit. I have one big goal - RUN THE MARATHON AND FINISH IT !! Don't worry about the time. I know that I won't be the last one to finish. That's important. How am I going to do it? I don't know. I am looking for best resources around. I just finished reading Haruki Murakami's - What I talk about When I talk about Running. Its a great book and its a simple man's dreams of being a fit runner while being a great novelist. I got it as an e-book and finished it twice already. I will hear it again and again as I go along the path of glory!! ( for myself )
There is another book I am reading - The non-runner's marathon trainer. I think it is very systematic training program which claims that everybody can complete a marathon. Its simple and they give a simple table to follow. I am not a non-runner but I think to run a marathon, i need to start from basics. I hope I will greatly benefit from this. I pray to god that this should turn out to be the right move.
The third one is "a good cause" that I want to associate with. There is one non-profitable organization - Asha that works for under privileged kids' education. Their motto is run to educate! I like that. Its also associated with India - my native country.
I am taking on some extra ordinary path. Last week something got stuck in my head. At age 30, I am thinking of running a marathon. A lot of people who actually ran marathons started late in their 20's or 30's (I am not talking about athletes who run in olympics or other competitions) but people who realized that there is something in running a marathon. Be it losing weight, some to feel proud of, a revenge or just for the heck of it. I fit in all the categories, just a bit in every one of them.
First of all, I loved running every since I came to US. The main reason being, there is a lot of space for runners. There are trails and there are fellow runners to get inspired from. I started in Virginia where you can run during most of the year (atleast 8 months). During winters, its easy to find an gym and run indoors. I did that. A lot of it. But I never thought beyond 30 minutes.
